The core instruction of meditation is simple: sit still and quiet the mind. Put into practice, however, non-action can feel remarkably difficult as restlessness, physical aches, and racing thoughts arise.
Drawing from the oldest surviving Daoist text on meditation, the Neiye (“Inward Training”), this class introduces a foundational approach to setting up your practice through the Three Adjustments (Santiao 三調):
- Body: Aligning physical structure and posture
- Breath: Regulating circulation and subtle qi
- Heart-Mind: Directing focus and awareness
Learn how these three interconnected layers work together to transform simple stillness from an elusive goal into an attainable, lasting experience.

Join us for three months of Intermediate Daoist Meditation & Sense Cultivation.
Our daily lives demand that we constantly direct our awareness outward through our senses. While essential for navigating the world, excessive outward focus depletes our energy reservoirs. As the Daodejing warns, overstimulation leads to inner exhaustion.
This class explores how to reclaim that energy by drawing your sensory awareness—touch, sight, and hearing—back into the body, opening the door to profound “inner seeing” and internal exploration.
Key Elements of the Practice:
- Gathering the Senses: Techniques to pull visual, auditory, and tactile awareness inward
- Sealing the Awareness: Transforming outward distraction into internal energy preservation
- Inner Seeing (Neiguan): Using refined internal awareness to explore the organs and inner landscape
